ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION PROJECTS
I am particularly drawn to architectural competition projects because they provide an opportunity to rigorously test design thinking, technical knowledge, and conceptual clarity within a fully integrated framework. Unlike professional practice environments—where responsibilities are often segmented among design, code research, documentation, and construction administration—competition work demands comprehensive authorship from inception through resolution.
This dynamic, holistic approach to architecture has been largely absent in conventional project delivery structures and was a primary motivation for establishing my own practice. As a sole practitioner, I am able to engage each project in its entirety—from initial concept development and regulatory analysis through construction documentation and implementation—ensuring continuity, accountability, and design integrity.
Childcare Homes Development – Long Island, NY Architectural competition proposal for a childcare residential development located on a prominent corner lot in Long Island, NY. The design responded to a defined owner’s program outlining specific spatial and functional requirements, organized around a centrally located outdoor activity courtyard serving as the focal point of the community. The project adopted a traditional architectural language and incorporated prefabricated wood truss roof systems, brick veneer, fiber-cement siding, and architectural asphalt shingles as primary exterior materials.
Municipal building situated on a significantly sloped site descending from the main street frontage. The primary design challenge was the topography, resulting in a one-story civic presence along the main street façade and a two-story elevation at the rear. Cast stone was selected as the dominant exterior material to reinforce the building’s formal administrative character, complemented by classical columns and traditional detailing. Special emphasis was placed on the design of the main reception hall, featuring articulated stair elements and column compositions.
Townhomes Development – Long Island, NY Architectural and site design proposal for a townhome development on an existing infill lot in Long Island, influenced by Dutch architectural typologies and proportions. Site planning was designed without curbs or sidewalks, with spatial and functional zone distinctions achieved through varied paving compositions and material transitions. Interior floor plan layouts were optimized for compactness and spatial efficiency, maximizing usable area while maintaining functional clarity and circulation flow.
Conceptual Residential Design Study Conceptual residential design developed to demonstrate capability in architectural visualization and early-stage design articulation. The project was produced at a schematic to design development level of detail, sufficient to communicate massing, spatial organization, architectural character, and material intent. Upon client approval of the overall concept, the project can advance to a higher level of technical resolution through the preparation of a comprehensive architectural construction document set for permitting and construction.
